Biblical Connections: The Power of Christian Networking

When most people talk about networking, it is often in the context of attending business conferences, collecting business cards, or making LinkedIn connections to advance one’s career and influence. Some church contexts emphasize surrounding ourselves with the right people but may regard networking as less important than being in a ministry or small group. The reality is that every Christian works somewhere, and we represent Christ and the Church at our jobs. When we learn from Christians at work, we are building up the Church.

As we enter the working world head on, we should not neglect the Church. Since we are designed with skills and gifts by God, we ought to use those gifts in places of need. 1 Corinthians 14:26 says “What then shall we say brothers & sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up.” For me, biblical networking means doing my part with what God has given me and joining other Christians with different experiences to advance the Kingdom. Pittsburgh Fellows is a place where Christians unite to bring light into our respective workplaces by living a life that honors Christ and allows God to work through us.

Pittsburgh Fellows isn’t confined to a church building, house, or Bible study only, this program is everywhere the people are. In two short months, I met countless amazing people, ranging from my eleven co-Fellows to my coworkers, from Business Roundtable speakers to my two business mentors, and everyone at St Stephen’s Church who invests in my emerging career and my walk with Christ. On top of that, there are Pittsburgh Fellows Alumni who go out of their way to be a resource for current fellows whether it’s career advice, discipleship, or social activities. Additionally, I work directly alongside two alumni at my placement. My work experience is made better knowing there are people who were in my shoes once, and I can learn and practice professional excellence with a biblical posture.

All these connections keep me accountable and help me put my career and life in perspective of God’s sovereign will. One of my business mentors told me: “True success is faithfulness in all areas of your life.” In other words, faithfulness to Christ and giving Him glory in every aspect supersedes the world’s version of success. I am truly grateful to be welcomed into a Christ-centered network that disciples me and my friends and encourages us to grow throughout this year and beyond.
