God at Work

The Fellows program offers young adults a variety of opportunities, such as:

surrounding yourself with other young, like-minded Christians, connecting you with job placements, and introducing you to life outside of college. While these are all amazing bonuses to the program, I have found the most joy in learning how to integrate my faith into my workplace.

As a Fellow, I have been surrounded by Pittsburgh Fellows alumni, who have helped me better understand how I can bring my faith into the workplace. I have also been connected with other successful businessmen and women who have built their careers around Christ. My business mentors have shown me that your job and faith do not need to be separate, but rather, you can show your faith in many other ways. I always believed that bringing your faith into the workplace was talking to others about Christ and spreading His Word. While that might be some part of it, I have learned that there is so much more to it. Integrating your faith in the workplace takes on many forms, ranging from spreading the Lord’s love to colleagues through kind gestures with gentle words, going the extra mile to help others, or even lending an ear to a colleague as they vent about their woes.

A good quote that I heard while listening to a Christian radio station was “We do not work to live, but rather live to work in the name of Christ.” This quote has helped me better understand the idea of integrating my faith into my work. It can be so easy to see your

job as "just a job” rather than your calling. Taking passion in what you do and doing your best in the name and image of God makes it that much more meaningful when you finally allow Christ into your workplace and allow him to work through you.

These last couple of months I have seen more growth within myself than I ever thought I

would. I started in a new job not knowing anything and wondering if I made the right decision, but now I feel confident in my abilities. I now know that as long as I am allowing the Lord to work through me and lead me, then I will never be left astray.
